NHS Prescriptions

At NHA Pharmacy we make getting your NHS prescriptions simple. As your nominated pharmacy we can manage your repeat medication from start to finish – requesting it from your GP surgery, dispensing it accurately and delivering it free of charge to your home or another address of your choosing anywhere in England. Whether you find it difficult to get to a pharmacy, have a busy schedule, or simply want a reliable, hassle-free service, our NHS prescription service is designed to take the worry out of managing your medicines.

What is an NHS prescription?

An NHS prescription is an order for medicine written by an NHS prescriber such as your GP, nurse prescriber or another authorised healthcare professional. Many people take medicines on a regular, ongoing basis – these are known as repeat prescriptions. Instead of contacting your surgery and visiting a pharmacy every time you need a refill, you can ask NHA Pharmacy to look after the whole process for you.

How our NHS prescription service works

Using our service is straightforward:

  • Register with us. Tell us your details and the medication you take regularly. You can sign up through our online NHS sign-up page or by contacting the pharmacy directly.
  • We contact your GP. When your medication is due, we request your repeat prescription directly from your GP surgery on your behalf, so you do not need to chase it yourself.
  • We dispense your medicine. Once the surgery issues the prescription, our pharmacist checks and dispenses your items, making sure you receive exactly what has been prescribed.
  • We deliver to your door. We deliver your dispensed medication free of charge to the address you choose. There is no need to queue or travel.

Nominating NHA Pharmacy

To allow us to order your prescriptions electronically through the NHS Electronic Prescription Service (EPS), you can nominate NHA Pharmacy as your chosen pharmacy. Nominating us means your GP can send your prescription to us electronically and securely, helping to avoid lost paper prescriptions and speeding up the whole process. You can change or cancel your nomination at any time, and nominating us does not tie you in – you remain free to use any pharmacy you wish.

Switching to us is easy

If you currently collect your prescriptions from another pharmacy, switching to NHA Pharmacy takes just a few minutes and there is no need to inform your existing pharmacy or your GP yourself – we can arrange everything. Simply register with us and we will take care of the rest, so there is no interruption to your medication.

NHS prescription charges and exemptions

Where an NHS prescription charge applies, the standard charge set by the NHS is payable for each item dispensed. Many people do not have to pay for their prescriptions. You may be entitled to free NHS prescriptions if, for example, you are aged 60 or over, are under 16 (or under 19 and in full-time education), hold a valid maternity or medical exemption certificate, receive certain benefits, or hold an NHS prescription prepayment certificate (PPC). If you need several items regularly, a prepayment certificate can save you money. Our team is happy to explain whether you may be eligible for help with prescription costs.
